The 3rd annual Sugar Creek Classic opened Friday night at North Montgomery High School with the #7 ranked Crawfordsville Lady Athenians taking on the Southmont Lady Mounties. Crawfordsville wasted little time taking control of the game. The Lady Athenians combination of speed, size and experience was way too much for the Lady Mounties as the cruised to an easy 67-24 victory.
In spite of missing what seemed like every free throw they shot along with many shots in the paint, Crawfordsville still rolled to a 40-5 halftime lead. The Lady Athenians finished the night 12-29 from the free throw line with Alex Gasaway being the lone bright spot converting all four of her free throw attempts.
The Crawfordsville starters spent most of the second half on the bench as the second team spent most of the time on the floor. Eleven different players ended up scoring for the Lady Athenians and were led by Gasaway’s 19 with Betty Elliott and Courtney Hamilton adding 10 points each. Hamilton also finished with a double double as she also hauled down 16 rebounds on the night.
The win moves Crawfordsville to 3-0 on the season while Southmont drops to 0-3 heading into Saturday night’s matchups.
