The action Saturday night opened with the consolation game featuring North Montgomery vs Southmont. Both teams were hoping to rebound from losses on Friday.
Unofficially, I think this was the longest game in the history of high school basketball. 1 hour 45 minutes, 46 fouls and 64 free throws later, the Lady Chargers came out on top 68-41. Evidently, the officials all got new whistles recently and just could not keep from using them again, and again, and again, and again, and again. The combined 63 turnovers did little to add any excitement to the marathon.
Kelsi Byrd led North Montgomery with 15 points and was joined in double digits by Nicole Kingma who added 11.
For the second night in a row, Stephanie Martin led Southmont with 13 with Karlie Booth adding 11.
The win moves North Montgomery to 2-1 on the season and the loss drops Southmont to 0-4.
