North Montgomery Girls Basketball vs Benton Central

The North Montgomery Lady Chargers played host to the #7 ranked 3A Benton Central Lady Bisons and put them to the test before falling 51-41 in a contest that was closer than the score indicated.

The Lady Chargers who were playing without senior Whitney Hutson who is out with a torn ACL and senior Tori Bowerman who is still recovering from an injury had no seniors in the lineup yet came out with great intensity and led after one quarter 15-12. Their youth and inexperience returned to haunt them a bit in the second period when they were able to only put 2 points on the board and went into halftime down 24-17.

North Montgomery was able to cut the lead to six after three periods and pushed the Lady Bisons deep in the fourth quarter before some costly turnovers, solid free throw shooting and 10 points from Benton Central’s dominate post player Hillary Moore put the game away. Moore finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

The Lady Chargers were led in scoring by freshman Kelsi Byrd who finished with 18.

The loss drops North Montgomery to 3-2 on the season. After enjoying their first five games at home, the Lady Chargers hit the road for seven of their next eight games.
