The annual Montgomery county wrestling meet was held Saturday at North Montgomery. The Crawfordsville Athenians ended Southmont’s strangle hold on the title, winning their first team county title in nearly two decades and ending the Mounties four year run as champions.
North Montgomery was able to get the upper hand on Crawfordsville to open the day as they won 34-29.
The Chargers next faced Southmont who controlled the lower weight classes in route to a 38-26 victory, leaving North Montgomery 1-1 on the day.
In the final matches, Crawfordsville pinned its way to a strong 50-27 victory leaving all teams 1-1 on the day but their 79 point combined score was more than enough to secure the team title. Southmont finished second with 65 points, narrowly beating North Montgomery who finished with 60.
