For the first time in many years, all three county schools had gymnastics team so a true county championship was able to be held. Southmont, who has had a strong team for several years, was able to win the overall team championship as well as the top three individual scorers. Crawfordsville was also able to post a season high team score, surpassing a season goal of scoring 80 team points. North Montgomery finished third, but considering this is only their second year of having a team, they performed very well and showed a lot of improvement since the start of the season.
Southmont sophomore Kara Price won the all around championship in dominating fashion, winning three individual events and finishing a close second in her fourth. Below is a short animation I made from still images of her pulling off a nice black flip on the beam.

Probably the most anticipated matchup of this sectional was this one. Crawfordsville and Western Boone have proven to be an outstanding matchup over the past few years and this game took on additional meaning as it also would determine the conference championship since bad weather forced the regular season final game between the two to be cancelled.
The game lived up to the high expectations and a very large crowd was on hand to witness it. Unfortunately for the Lady Athenians turnovers cost them their season as the Lady Stars won the contest 61-56.
Western Boone played an outstanding game and hats off to them on completing a perfect conference record. Maybe now, the state polls will finally recognize their accomplishments and give them the credit they deserve as a very good team.
On a personal note, the game was a sad one for me. Since returning to photography four years ago, I have spent a lot of time with this Lady Athenian team and have got to know many of the senior players and their families and will really miss them. Ladies, it has been my pleasure to get to know you and wish you all the best of luck.

Crawfordsville and Lebanon played the second game of the opening night of the 2010 sectionals hosted by Southmont high school. The Lady Athenians are looking to defend their sectional title and will have to win three games to do it.
Crawfordsville showed some down moments but were able to make up for it with their size, speed and experience ending the Lady Tigers season with a 50-43 victory.

Capping off a week of festivities, Eric Totheroh was crowned Snowcoming king during halftime of the boys basketball game. Click here to view photos from the event.
Leading up to Snowcoming King crowning ceremony during Friday’s basketball game, each class fielded a basketball team to play a tourney as part of the week’s festivities.
The opening game featured the sophomores vs the seniors with the sophomores winning the game. After building an early lead the sophomores had to rely on some last second free throws to hold off a comeback by the seniors.
The second game had the freshman, playing with only four players, taking on the juniors who were gracious enough to play the game 4 on 4. The juniors also showed a lot of class by not trying to embarrass the shorthanded freshman team while still cruising to an easy win.
The finals featured the sophomores vs the juniors with the sophomores taking the student championship.
The last game of the night pitted the student champion sophomores against a loaded faculty team. The faculty took advantage of their size and experience to easily defeat the sophomores.
The evening was a lot of fun and there was a good crowd on hand to view the games.
