Southmont Boys Soccer vs Crawfordsville

The Southmont boys soccer team remained undefeated on the season after soundly defeating Crawfordsville on their home field 5-1. The win moves the Mounties to 3-0 on the year and 1-0 in conference play.

Kyle Utterback and Chris Rash each provided two first half scores to give Southmont a comfortable lead early and Erik Garcia added a goal early in the second half to round out the scoring for the Mounties.

Crawfordsville’s lone score came from James Miller later in the second half.

Southmont will have to wait until the last game of the season to see if they can capture another Montgomery county title when the battle the also undefeated North Montgomery Chargers in what should prove to be another very competitive boys soccer matchup.

Southmont Boys Soccer vs Cascade

The Southmont Mounties made easy work of Cascade on their home field winning 6-1.

The Mounties controlled the ball and the tempo of the game throughout and attacked the Cascade defense repeatedly from many directions.

Because no rosters were available at the game and have not been added to the SHS website, I am not sure who some of players are so am unable to write much of a summary. Oh well, you are here for the pictures anyway. :-)

Crawfordsville Boys Soccer vs Northview

The Crawfordsville boys soccer team moved to 2-0 on the season with a 6-1 victory over visiting Northview.

The Athenians were led by junior Cole Priebe’s hat trick, two goals from fellow junior Matt Mummert and a score from Austin Evans. Mummert also contributed two assists for Crawfordsville who controlled the ball the majority of the game.

Crawfordsville has good depth, speed and experience and should make a run at yet another county and sectional championship.

North Montgomery Boys Soccer vs Carroll

The North Montgomery boys soccer team kicked off their 2009 season in solid fashion with an easy 7-0 victory over visiting Carroll. The match was the first on the new, wider home field for the Chargers. The field appeared to be in good shape for being so new with the only drawback being it is about 27 miles from the parking lot and I forgot to bring my pack mule with me.

The Chargers do not have a lot of players but those who are on the team are experienced and have talent across the board. If their conditioning holds up they should be competitive for the season.

Jordan Galloway and Reese Oliver each had two goals in the victory and Bryan Swift, Joey Clifton and Todd Mellish also contributed goals. Mellish, normally a senior defensive staple, scored his first career goal when exhaustion forced the Chargers to make some player rotations late in the match.

The victory was a good start to the season for the Chargers and will serve them well as they prepare for a trip to Lafayette on Thursday to battle Central Catholic.
