The Lady Athenian soccer team opened their season with a match versus McCutcheon. I was happy to not see any rain but wow was it hot. I am glad I was just standing around with a camera and not running up and down a field.

McCutcheon proved to be the stronger team on the night easily beating the Lady Athenians 7-0. They controlled the ball and moved it seemingly at will and were constantly firing shots at Crawfordsville goal keeper Kaitlyn Carey. Carey made several excellent saves, but the barrage of attempts by the Mavericks ultimately took their toll.

The Lady Mavericks appeared to be a team full of club players as their stamina and organization was evident even in the sweltering conditions. While the Lady Athenians were kept on their heels most of the night, the matchup with such a strong team will go a long way to helping them improve as the season progresses.
