The North Montgomery Charger tennis team defeated the visiting Southmont Mounties 4-1 in a match that took two days to complete. Rain washed out the event Tuesday night soon after it started and the two teams returned on Wednesday to wrap things up.
The lone loss on the night for the Chargers was a forfeit at the number 3 singles position due to Clayton Zink’s absence for a school function.

I had not covered the North Montgomery boys yet this season and with the limited time remaining because of the restart and the fact I was pretty sick, I only had time to get some shots of the the Chargers.

My week of county match ups continued as the Southmont Monties visited Macy Courts to take on the Crawfordsville Athenians. Crawfordsville won in rather convincing fashion defeating the Mounties 5-0 and did not drop a set in the contest.
Southmont #3 singles player Kyle Davis nearly stole a set from Brendon Craft leading 5-4 in the first set but Craft responded by winning the next three games and went on to take the second set to secure the sweep for the Athenians.
Crawfordsville moves to 3-2 on the season and are 1-0 in conference play. Southmont drops to 1-4 on the season and are still searching for their first conference win with the loss dropping them to 0-3 in the conference.

The Athenian boys tennis team opened their 2009 season with a solid 5-0 victory over the visting Fountain Central Mustangs. Crawfordsville won all matches in straight sets over the young Mustang squad.
All Fountain Central players were competing in their first varsity matches so experience is not one of their strong suits early in the season.
The win gets the Athenians off to a winning start for the season and gives them a bit of experience as they head into a challenging matchup Thursday night against McCutcheon.
