First volleyball of the season. I was a bit rusty and with 18 lights in the gym not working sure made it an even tougher challenge.
I was very impressed with the new look Lady Athenians. It was nice to see a more aggressive, attacking style of game. Also should make for some excellent conference match ups for the season.

I covered the semi-finals and finals of the 2009 IHSAA volleyball sectionals held at Western Boone High School.
The day opened with the much anticipated matchup between North Montgomery and Western Boone and the game lived up to all expectations for a great match. The teams split their two earlier season matchups with North Montgomery winning in a tourney 2-1 and Western Boone sweeping the Lady Chargers 3-0 in the regular season conference matchup.
Western Boone came out firing winning the first two sets. North Montgomery rebounded winning the next two sets to set up a deciding 5th set. The set went back and forth until tied 10-10 and Western Boone then took control running of 5 straight points to win the match. It was a tough loss for North Montgomery and a big win for the Lady Stars.
Southmont and Danville then took the court for the second semi-final match and like the first match it took 5 sets to determine a winner. Danville jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Southmont responded to win the remaining 3 sets to reach the finals and face the host Stars.
In the finals, Western Boone’s power proved too much for the Lady Mounties as the Lady Stars rolled to a rather easy 3-0 victory to claim the sectional title.
Congratulations to the Lady Stars and best of luck at the regionals.
Below is a slideshow of some of my favorite images from the day. The Western Boone gym is not a fun place to shoot as the lighting is not very good but was able to come away with a few keepers. Due to the militant controls of the IHSAA, photos from this event are not for sale but hope you at least enjoy viewing them.

The North Montgomery Lady Chargers secured a tie for the conference championship with their 26-24, 25-16, 25-19 victory over the visiting Tri-West Lady Bruins.
A late rally by Tri-West made the first set close as they ran off six straight points to even the set at 24 before the Lady Chargers were able to break their serve and close out the set. After trailing 7-6 in the second set, North Montgomery took charge running off six straight points and never looked back.
The win closed out the regular season for the Lady Chargers, ending with a very impressive 27-5 record and finishing 6-1 in the conference. They shared the conference championship with both Western Boone and Frankfort as the three teams took turns beating each other throughout the season to all finish with 6-1 conference records.
Sectionals will kick off Thursday night at Western Boone. North Montgomery opens the night playing Lebanon and is followed by Western Boone taking on Crawfordsville. The winners of those two matches will face off in the first game on Saturday morning with Southmont and Danville set to take the court following them. The finals will be played Saturday night. (This has been corrected from my earlier post.)

The Western Boone Stars volleyball team traveled to Crawfordsville for a Sagamore conference matchup with the Lady Athenians and left with a 25-12, 25-22, 25-22 victory.
The Lady Stars have a very impressive team and their size and power proved to be a tough matchup for Crawfordsville. A seemingly endless onslaught of hard spikes from Allison Nicley and Sarah Solomon constantly had the Lady Athenians on their heels and led to a pretty easy first set victory.
Crawfordsville was able to adjust to the speed and power of Western Boone and played them very close in both the second and third set. While the Lady Athenians may not be as big as some of the other conference teams, their athleticism and speed always keep them in matches.
The loss dropped the Lady Athenians to 15-8 on the season and 2-2 in the conference. Western Boone moves to 14-5 on the season and 3-1 in the conference.

The Crawfordsville Lady Athenians rebounded from two straight losses with a thee game victory over the visiting Southmont Lady Mounties Tuesday night 27-25, 25-18, 25-17.
The first game was a close contest throughout with Crawfordsville needing extra points to nail down the win. The Lady Athenians responded strongly in the next two games jumping out to big early leads and holding on to close out the match in three games.
I was focusing more on Southmont in this event because trying to shoot them in their gym is an effort in futility because the lighting is awful and the pictures turn out terrible. I was also feeling pretty sick last night and my timing was not good so did not end up with as many good images as normal.
I am really under the weather today so apologize for the short summary but wanted to get the photos posted for people to see.

The Southmont Lady Mountie JV volleyball team visited Crawfordsville on Tuesday and left with an exciting three game win over the host Athenians 25-24, 21-25, 15-12.
Being around a sea of sick people lately has finally caught up to me. I am really under the weather today so apologize for the short summary but wanted to get the photos posted for people to see.

Crawfordsville traveled to North Montgomery for a much anticipated county volleyball matchup. The Lady Chargers entered the match undefeated on the season with a 10-0 record and Crawfordsville came in with an impressive 12-3 mark.
The Lady Athenians played North Montgomery well in the first game before falling 25-20. They also started started off well in the second game before the Lady Chargers size and power took over rolling to a 25-14 win. North Montgomery carried the second game momentum into the third game and overpowered the Lady Athenians with strong serves and aggressive kills leading to a 25-9 victory.
The win moves North Montgomery to 11-0 on the season with a 3-0 conference record. Crawfordsville drops to 12-4 on the season and 1-1 in the conference.

The North Montgomery Lady Charger JV volleyball team captured a big win Thursday night with a 25-10, 23-25, 15-7 victory over the visiting Lady Athenians.
The Lady Chargers won the first game rather easily but Crawfordsville stormed back taking the second game which was the most exciting of the night. North Montgomery made a run late in the second game but the Lady Athenians held them off to force the deciding third game.
North Montgomery got out to a fast start in the deciding game and did not look back cruising to the victory.

I have not been able to get photos ready for this event yet. I am providing some content to the Journal and Courier and waiting to see what they need before I can post. I will have this updated in the next couple of days.
The Crawfordsville Lady Athenians defeated the Southmont Lady Mounties 22-25, 25-15, 25-22 as part of the annual Crawfordsville Invitational on Saturday.
I missed the first part of the match due to another project and did not make it back for any of the later games so only have a limited amount of coverage from the day.
I spent most of this match covering Southmont since I have not covered them yet this year which is why there are more photos of the Lady Mounties.
