2009 North Montgomery Holiday Duals

The annual North Montgomery Holiday Duals were held 12/30 and 12/31. As usual, the competition and overall talent was incredibly impressive with five of the eight teams being ranked in the top 20 by indianamat.com. Through the 12/21 polls, Perry Meridian #2, Bloomington South #7, Portage #8, New Palestine #13 and Carmel #18 are ranked and Warren Central is an honorable mention team as well.

A special thanks to North Montgomery coach JD Minch for his support and for providing all the final results information.

The final team results from the two day event were:

1. Perry Meridian 7-0
2. Portage 5-2
3. Bloomington South 5-2
4. Carmel 4-3
5. New Palestine 4-3
6. Delphi 2-5
7. Warren Central 1-6
8. North Montgomery 0-7

Round by Round results are listed below. Fellow photographer Lori Poteet and I covered several of the matches over the two days. Links to the photos we took are included next to the specific match we covered. We tried to get shots of as many kids as possible but are sure there are some we missed. This was not intentional and sorry to anyone that we missed.

County Wrestling Meet

The annual Montgomery county wrestling meet was held Saturday at North Montgomery. The Crawfordsville Athenians ended Southmont’s strangle hold on the title, winning their first team county title in nearly two decades and ending the Mounties four year run as champions.

North Montgomery was able to get the upper hand on Crawfordsville to open the day as they won 34-29.

The Chargers next faced Southmont who controlled the lower weight classes in route to a 38-26 victory, leaving North Montgomery 1-1 on the day.

In the final matches, Crawfordsville pinned its way to a strong 50-27 victory leaving all teams 1-1 on the day but their 79 point combined score was more than enough to secure the team title. Southmont finished second with 65 points, narrowly beating North Montgomery who finished with 60.
